“you--” david starts but immediately closes his mouth with a clack of his teeth. he didn’t really prepare for a conversation and now he’s scrambling to say anything at all: “how’s-- how’s the limbo? those guys still bothering you?”

   “guess it depends on how neat you want it to be.” he’s mostly used to the conversation topics illyana broaches with him, now, especially when they’re general ones like this. of course, if she’d asked him whether he thought a paring knife could remove his heart in under a minute, there’d be some trepidation, but they’re on level ground for now. sure, it’s spooky level ground, like a cemetery or whatever, but he can handle it. “i mean, are we talking for like, emergency transplant purposes or fuck this person and fuck them getting to have a beating heart purposes?”

The smell of fresh cut grass, the trickling of water, the distant murmur of voices that come and go.

Raven doesn’t move at first, just opens her eyes to star out over the grass she’s face down in, trying to get her bearings while her world spins and her head pounds. She swallows hard before she pushes herself up slowly, wincing hard when her left wrist won’t support weight without shooting pain all the way up her arm into her neck.

She’s going to guess it’s broken.

Glancing around her, even while her world bows and swims- a fountain, a blue sky, a spacious yard, and a massive old building.

Sitting up more, she pulls her arm across herself before standing. She almost pitches forward again, but catches herself. She could bet money on a concussion too. 

She doesn’t sense Robin or Starfire or- anybody. She reaches out and she finds no one. Well, that’s not entirely true. She finds plenty of people. But none she knows.

Swallowing hard, she reaches with her good hand to try to scrub some of the grass stains off her cheek, heading towards the sound of the people. Someone will know what happened. Or at least tell her where she is so she can work on getting home.
